Beaumaris Rescue - 13.12.1981
Coxswain Gallichan - gallant man
With Greater London crew
Fought the elements on the Straits
As he set out to rescue
Snow was lashing across the sea
Force 10 - moving upward
Visibility down to nil
The crew was moving outward
High tides flooded Beaumaris Town
Broke across the walkway
They all struggled to reach the boat
Soaked and frozen on that day
Beating seas on the boathouse door
Greater London ready
Launched straight into the howling gale
Foremast lifted - unsteady
Snow was blocking the wnidscreen view
Crewmen’s eyes on both sides
Crewmen saying which way to go
Coxswain Gallichan’s good guides
Wygyr tossing around Perch Rock
Heaving lines were thrown out
Gusting 12 and no crew came off
Greater London turned about
Beating back into Ynys Môn
Puffin channel roaring
One line snapped and the lifeboat turned
Back to Wygyr driving
Pulling in on the single line
Distances decreasing
Two boats touched and two crew jumped off
Distances were increasing
Greated London still towing home
One remaining line fell
Wygyr broke onto Trwyn Du
Wrecked by the raging tide swell
Battling back up to Menai Bridge
Whiteout on the storm sea
Hotel lighting to guide them in
With two men they had set free
December 13th that awful day
13 struggled for two
9 men out on the roaring sea
4 as the shore-based crew
That was in 1981
Beaumaris lifeboat still
Saves the lives in the Menai Strait
With crewmen of great good will
Coxswain Gallichan - gallant man
With Greater London crew
Fought the elements in the Straits
As he set out to rescue
